A Word From Our President, Chaney Mosley

I have been attending ACTE’s National Policy Seminar regularly since 2011. It was exciting to see a team of Tennessee ACTE members attend this year and hear about their legislative visits. Advocacy at the state level is important, but when it comes to federal funding, advocacy at the federal level is essential and our members provided that this year! Some key takeaways from this year’s NPS include: (a) the importance of storytelling (something your current and former students can do for you!); (b) having a specific ask when meeting with elected (not just asking for “support”, but asking for a commitment to do something specific, something observable and measurable); (c) following up with elected officials after a visit (staying on their radar); and (d) inviting elected officials to your schools for a visit (seeing is believing). I hope more TN ACTE members will join us for next year’s National Policy Seminar!
