Understanding each step in the application process will help you prepare a robust application to the USC School of Medicine Greenville.
For “Early Decision” or “Regular MD” admission, you first must complete and submit a primary application through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) to the USC School of Medicine Greenville.
Please note: AMCAS application processing can take up to eight weeks for regular decision applicants. Apply as early as possible.
Your application will be reviewed by a diverse admissions committee that includes community members, current students, nurses and members of the biomedical science and clinical science faculties of the medical school and the offices of diversity, academic services and research at Prisma Health–Upstate.
Step 2: Letters of RecommendationYou must submit three to five letters of recommendation. If your undergraduate institution prepares a Premedical Advisory Committee letter, you may submit that letter that to fulfill the minimum letter requirements.
Letters should be written by individuals who know you well, such as faculty professors at your undergraduate institution, physicians with whom you have worked closely, research mentors or employers. Letters should comment on your work ethic, interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail, passion for medicine and compassion for your future patients.
Step 3: Supplemental Application through WebAdMITOur team will process your verified AMCAS application within two weeks of receipt. Afterwards, you will receive an invitation from the WebAdMIT portal with instructions about how to submit your supplemental application through its applicant gateway.
You must also submit a $95 processing fee with your supplemental application. This fee will be waived if you qualify for the AMCAS fee assistance program.
Step 4: Interview InvitationsSelect applicants are invited by email to complete an interview day with the USC School of Medicine Greenville. Interview days start at 10 a.m. EST and end around 4:30 EST.
You will be asked to sign a form acknowledging you have read, understand and are able to meet the Technical Standards of Admission.
Step 5: School Admissions DecisionsThe admissions process follows a yearly cycle.
If offered a position in the next entering class, you must accept or decline the offer within two weeks. Failure to do so will result in the rescinding of your admissions offer.
The USC School of Medicine Greenville follows the AAMC Application and Acceptance Protocols.
Mid-October to mid-March: Decisions announced. Accepted applicants must accept or decline their offer within two weeks. Failure to do so will result in the rescinding of the admission offer.
Mid-February: The “Plan to Enroll” option on AMCAS becomes available for accepted students. The USC School of Medicine Greenville recommends using this tool. It helps us (and other medical schools) ensure that we do not overextend or undersubscribe admissions offers.
Mid-April: AAMC protocols recommend accepted students narrow offers to no more than three medical schools (if applicable). The USC School of Medicine endorses this protocol.
April 30: The “Commit to Enroll” option on AMCAS for accepted students becomes available and remains open until 21 days prior to orientation. Use this tool when you are ready to commit to a school and intend to withdraw all other acceptances.
Before July 1: An offer of admission is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all requirements and conditions of admission, including a satisfactory background check. If admitted, you are required to submit official transcripts to the Registrar prior to July 1 from every college and university you attended. These transcripts will be included in your USC School of Medicine Greenville academic records.
21 days prior to orientation: You must select “Commit to Enroll” if planning to matriculate at the USC School of Medicine Greenville. Failure to do so will result in the rescinding of your admissions offer.
You apply to the USC School of Medicine Greenville through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS). The AMCAS application opens in early May; applicants may begin submitting materials at the end of May.
